I spoke Sunday night on “The Heart of a Leader.” And over the next few days, I am going to share with you the main points from that message. These points are not new, but they are very essential to leadership development. In all honesty, these points could easily be the foundation of leadership.
The overarching scripture for the message was 1 Corinthians 11:1 “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” Christ is the ultimate example of how we should live our lives. He set the bar for how we are to utilize the influence that God has graciously given us.
My first point was….
1. Leaders love others as Christ loves them – Jesus was amazing! Look at these scriptures…
- Matthew 9:36
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
- Matthew 14:14
When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
- 2 Corinthians 1:3
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
- Philippians 2:1
Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
- Colossians 3:12
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Jesus modeled compassion. Simply put, He cared for those who followed Him. He led from a heart that was full of love for the lost and the hurting.
The Bible teaches us in the book of Matthew that your heart determines what comes out of your mouth. I encourage you to take a moment and do a heart check. Is it full of love and compassion? Or is full of bitterness and hurt?
It is my prayer that you would allow Christ to fill your heart with love and compassion. And that your leadership would be taken to the next level as you love on those who look to you.
