Making decisions is really not that difficult. Think about it, from the moment you get up in the morning until the moment you go to bed at night you are making decisions. You choose to take a shower. You choose to brush our teeth. You choose your clothes and then choose to get dressed. And the list goes on and on!
You may say, well these are simple decisions anyone can make! And i counter with, try telling that to my 11 year daughter as she gets dressed for school in the morning. The wrong clothes can throw her entire day off!
And I agree, some decisions are instinctively harder than others. For example, “who you will marry” is a bigger decision than “should you brush your teeth.” But, my point here is that you don’t struggle as much with making decisions as you do with managing them.
In January you decide to get in better shape. But when February hits, you give into the Big Mac. Chocolate pie. Lasagna. Or whatever your vice is. Why, because managing or sticking to a decision requires a lot of effort and self-discipline. And that is where we all struggle.
So, next time you make a decision. I would challenge you to take a hard look at what is required for you to manage that decision daily. Take an inventory of where you are mentally and emotionally. Are you at a place in your life where you have the strength to carry out what you decide? What resources will help you achieve what it is you are attempting to achieve. Ask those hard questions in order to set yourself up to succeed.
Decisions can be made easily and can be managed wisely if you just apply yourself and don’t give up. Remember we all had to learn to crawl before we could walk. And we all had to learn to walk before we could run. And throughout all of it, we all fell down!
Don’t give up! You are worth it!
