I read an interesting article the other day. It asked a question that I found challenging, “If you could ask 7 people to dinner, who would you ask?’ I instantly started going through my mental Rolodex. And believe me I came up with a great list of people! However, that was not my main take away from this article.
After I had fun putting together a list, I asked myself another question, “Whose dinner list would I be on?” Now believe me, I am not an ego manic. Nor am I a person who needs a spotlight. However, I started wondering if I have had a big enough impact in someone’s life that he/she would like to have me at his/her table.
Or if my imprint on this world is big enough to have those who don’t know me, want to get to know me. As a follower of Christ, I want to live my life in such a way that it brings Him honor and glory. I want my life to point others to Him. And if I am having no impact at all, how can that bring Him anything.
As I look at the life Christ led – I see a life of servanthood. And I look at the impact that He has had on this world. And I can’t help but realize that the best and truest way to impact others is to serve them. And if you serve enough people in His name and for His glory, people will notice.
So I came away with the conclusion that the best way to get people’s attention is to serve them. And to serve them for the right reasons, to bring Christ glory and honor. And if I get asked to have dinner with someone because of it, awesome! That only gives me another chance to point someone to the only person really worth following – Christ.
