The Power of Your Surroundings

Do you struggle with follow through? Is starting a task much easier than completing it? If you said “Yes,” you’re not alone! People all over the world struggle with doing the things they know they need to do.

Now, pointing out the obvious does little to help a person experience a breakthrough. However, what if I could offer a small tool that could be of assistance? What if taking a look around could be one thing that could help you get where you want to go? Is it worth a try?

Take a quick look around you. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? What are your senses experiencing as you take in your surroundings?

Whether your realize it or not, your surroundings impact you. They can pull you closer to your goals or drag you further away. For instance, let’s say you want to lose weight. Ok, take a look in your kitchen. What kind of foods are you bringing into your home? Are they healthy or unhealthy choices?

Let’s say you enroll in school looking forward to a new career but you struggle with your studies. Look around you. What’s close to you that pulls your attention away from your books? TV? Internet? Gaming systems? Mobile devices? If you really want to experience success, you will need to eliminate the things around you that are distracting you.

Now, start adding things that will fuel you in completing your tasks. What stirs the inner drive within you? Music? Pictures? Smells? What causes you to experience that boost in activity, helping you to pave the way to success. Music helps me to write. So, as I write these words, I’m listening to music and I like it to be a little loud too.

I know this may sound way too simple and I will admit it is very simple. However, I also know that sometimes it’s the simplest of things that help us get over a hump.

What helps you to finish what you’ve started?
