Keys To Connecting

There’s an epidemic taking place all around us without a single word given to address it. This epidemic plays out in all arenas – homes, offices, schools, anywhere where there are people.

You see there is a basic human desire that is being neglected and that desire is to feel appreciated. A well timed “atta boy” makes anyone feel better about himself. Honest appreciation is so basic that at times it is almost too easy to give. Yet, there are a few things that are more powerful.

If you really want to connect with people, show them appreciation. Help the person to recognize how she is contributing to a better world by her words and actions. Don’t give false flattery, but give true honest appreciation for the person. You’ll be amazed of the impact that it can have on the recipient.

Tip #2
Give honest and sincere appreciation.

In an attempt to never forget the importance of appreciation, Dale Carnegie pasted this quote on his mirror, Try leaving a friendly trail of little sparks of gratitude on your daily trips. You will be surprised how they will et small flames of friendship that will be rose beacons on your next visit.

So, if you’re attempting to make the world a better place by connecting with others, be person who is quick to show appreciation and praise instead of a person who is quick to show judgement.

I’ll leave you with one more quote for Mr. Carnegie’s book, I shall pass this way but once; any good, therefore, that I can do or kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do into. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

What are some ways you’ve been shown appreciation?
How have you shown appreciation to others?
