Have you ever made a mistake? Silly question, we all have. A better question to ask is, have you ever had a tough time admitting a mistake? It’s amazing to me how difficult at times it can be to admit to making a mistake. If you’ve struggled with this before, rest assured, you’re in good company. The vast majority, if not all of us, can find it hard to fess up to an error.
Mr. Dale Carnegie, in his book How To Win Friends & Influence People, states, There is a certain degree of satisfaction in having the courage to admit one’s errors. It not only clears the air of guilt and defensiveness, but often helps solve the problem created by the error.
He goes on to say that, Any fool can try to defend his or her mistakes – and most fools do – but it raises one above the herd and gives one a feeling of nobility and exultation to admit one’s mistakes.
So next time you make a blunder, and believe me you will, admit your mistake quickly and honestly. I encourage you take the high road and see where it takes you.
Describe a time when you wished you had admitted your mistake.
